General Patton and Richard Branson?

Image
General Patton of WWII fame, and Richard Branson of the "Virgin" brand don't seem, at least on the surface, to have much in common. Take a look at these two memes, and see if you can see the common thread?

Flipping the Org Chart

Image
Agile isn't just some process you overlay onto your existing organization.  When done right, the eventual result is the "flipping" of the org chart so that leadership realizes the best thing for them as individuals, and their organization as a whole, is to serve their people. By "flipping the org chart" companies reach the "hyper-productivity" that Jeff Sutherland often refers to.

Good News and Bad News

The Good News:  Scrum Alliance is now creating an annual "State of Scrum" report to complement VersionOne's "State of Agile" annual report. The Bad News:  The results are the same. "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." -- Nelson Mandela It does not seem accidental that "courage" is the first Scrum Value on the list.  When coupled with "psychological safety" - open communication becomes not only possible - but the expected norm. Safety is the responsibility of management and the overall culture of the organization. Courage is the responsibility of the individuals in the organization. When Organizational Safety meets Individual Courage - the sky is the limit.
